450 miles to my grandma’s house in Oklahoma and back. 11mpg. 3 gears and no locking torque converter = 3000rpm in a 5.7 liter V8 with an exhaust leak. Fuuuuuuck that wasn’t fun. Here are some pictures, I’ll go wallow in how damn broke I am now.
Girlfriend took the camera
Poor dog is covered in non-malignant tumors. Most of them just popped up in the last year. Don’t bother her but it looks incredibly disturbing.

The fact that neither of our Jags could make it 450 miles in one go just makes ours more authentic. Even if Jake’s is cooler.

I badly want to but I only have $40 right now. I’d need $150 for one that’s on CL right now, another $90 to get my driveshaft shortened and balanced, and then probably another $80 for random stuff like materials to relocate the trans mount, etc.

5.7 liter? You mean a 350??? Git yer commie metric bullshit outta here!

It’s a three-fitty not a 5.7l.
Who the hell started all this metric convert crap just stole the awesome that is cubic inches.

Please tell me you don’t mean $40 to your name right now.

Well it passed the test, time to sell the Miata and house and travel around the country in an XJS.

Some of the 3spd ATs had a lockup torque converter. Check out the “Jags that run” website. If you dig you can find info on 350 swaps into Jags and if you have a lockup torque converter, how you can wire up a lockup torque coverter switch including brake circuit (i.e. When you hit the brakes you want the torque converter to unlock).

Hell yeah your car is cool, even if it is blasphemous.
11mpg is worse than the V12 though :S that can’t be right...

Cammed 355 with a 4 barrel that ran at 3000rpm all the way down there. Then again it could likely use a tune... that carb wasn’t set up right at all when I got it. I got the low-load stuff adjusted correctly with the screws on the front but I’m not sure those are what controls it at 3k rpm

That would be interesting. I believe it is the TH350S that has the lockup converter. I’d have to take a look and see what trans it is.

Yeah the 3000rpm might just do it, although I’d definitely check the fuelling.
Out of interest, how much power should that setup be making?

I have no idea. It appears to be a bog standard truck 350 pre-1985 with no emissions crap, some strange tubular headers that snake around the car’s bodywork, a 4-barrel 600CFM (?) Edelbrock, and a very mild cam. My butt dyno says probably 230hp and 300lb*ft of torque. I’m debating on spending the money on Vortec heads or getting another set of regular 350 heads and porting/polishing and rebuilding them myself.
